NEXT EVENT: SUSTAINABLE REFURBISHMENT OF THE EXISTING HEALTHCARE ESTATE
08 Feb 2010 Last Edited: 09 Mar 2010
The next SHINE event is announced. It will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 16th March at CIRIA in Old Street, London.
The sustainability performance of the existing healthcare estate is about to become a high priority with the introduction of the Carbon Reduction Commitment (or CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme) from April 2010, and the need to achieve cost savings from the existing estate. Forthcoming policies are also expected on Climate Change Adaptation and performance benchmarks.
In order to better understand the range of options available for sustainable refurbishment , SHINE has been examining a series of case studies through its MESH programme (making existing healthcare buildings sustainable). This event will present the results of our research and:
• explore the requirements and drivers for estate refurbishment and improvement
• learn of forthcoming policy from the Department of Health.
• hear from the MESH case studies and other NHS Trusts about their experience
Speakers will include: Chris Holme from the Department of Health, Adrian Eggleton from 2gether NHS Foundation Trust and Andrew Bumfrey from the Space Group talking about the Galleries Project for the South of Tyne-and-Wear NHS Trust.
In addition, SHINE will use the event to develop our recommendations for policy and other changes needed to help NHS organisations improve the sustainability of their estate. Participants at the event will have a chance to input to these recommendations and meet colleagues who have undertaken similar projects and faced similar hurdles and difficulties.
The full programme for this event can be seen on the
event page.
